The Encaustic technique uses melted wax as a paint, and was used thousands of years ago before the development of oil paints. The pigmented wax was applied onto a surface by tools which had been heated over an open fire. Nancy Fotheringham has used high quality coloured beeswax melted on an electric iron and applied it onto card to create bright and colourful images.
